Training Scholarship

All residents receive a $20,000 training scholarship paid directly to them.
Earn a Master's Degree in One Year

Complete your degree with one of our university partners with heavily reduced tuition, and begin teaching in just one year.
Job Placement

Upon graduation, you will be paced into an AUSL-managed neighborhood public school and become a certified Chicago Public School Teacher and union member.<br /> Starting salary at a Master's degree level is around $57,000 (plus pension and other benefits).
Student Teaching + Graduate Coursework

Residents will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in their coursework to their own classroom, under the guidance of an expert mentor teacher.
Coaching Support

Each resident receives one-on-one coaching and support from a Mentor Resident Coach, who will supplement university coursework with professional development in curriculum and instruction.

The Residency Year Experience

Graduate-Level Coursework

Select and complete your Master's degree in one year. Choose from a Master of Arts in Education (M.A.T) or a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from DePaul University or National Louis University.
In-Classroom Experience

Your student teaching begins right away in September and ramps up throughout the year.
Cohort Model

Be with like-minded individuals who are just as inspired as you are to make a difference in education. With our cohort model, you will feel supported and have the opportunity to build your professional network.
One-on-One Coaching

Receive personalized feedback and support from an experienced Mentor Resident Coach. They will be assigned to you day one and be with you throughout the entire year and past graduation.
Job Placement

Part of the Residency experience is a commitment to teach in an AUSL-Managed Chicago Public School upon graduation. In the last five years, 77% of our Residents are still employed with Chicago Public Schools, and some are now Principals!

The Application Process

1. Online Application

Our online application only takes a few minutes to complete! Just provide us with your resume, two short answer questions (250 words each), and unofficial transcripts of university/colleges that you’ve attended.

2. Online Interview

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll be invited to an online interview where you’ll meet our team and conduct a model lesson.

3. Licensure Testing

Candidates can satisfy the Illinois Licensure Testing Requirements in 3 ways:

  1. TAP (Test of Academic Proficiency) exam
  2.  Qualifying ACT score
  3. Qualifying SAT Score

If you do not have qualifying scores, you will need to register for one of the 3 exams. 

4. University Admittance

Enroll into DePaul or National Louis University, depending on the Master’s degree program you’ve selected.

5. Conditional Acceptance

Within two weeks of your interview you’ll find out if you’re accepted* into the Chicago Teacher Residency and on your way to making a difference in public education.

*You will need to satisfy Illinois State Licensure Requirements (Qualifying TAP, ACT or SAT scores) before enrolling in the CTR in June 2019*
