First’s Interests

Middle School

Many who enter the teaching profession feel middle schoolers are at the perfect age for learning – not too young and not too old.

As a middle school teacher in one of AUSL’s turnaround schools you will differentiate instruction to ensure all students are making significant academic gains. You will design and execute new methods of engaging students while aligning curricula with Illinois state standards.

As a middle school teacher you are required to complete 18 semester hours of college level course work in the subject area you will be teaching. Middle school math residents are eligible for AUSL’s $40,000 salary/ stipend.

Secondary School

The high school grades are some of the most challenging to teach, but they are also some of the most rewarding.

As a high school teacher in one of AUSL’s turnaround schools you will develop and grow students’ critical thinking skills, enabling them to successfully navigate the world around them. You will help design strategic plans to ensure that each student meets college and career goals. You will learn strategies to be highly effective at instruction, classroom management and to build meaningful student/parent relationships.

As a high school teacher you are required to complete 32 semester hours of college level course work in the subject area you will be teaching.

Art

As an art teacher in one of AUSL’s turnaround schools, you have a unique opportunity to inspire and reach students at a time when art programs are being cut from school programs and curriculum.

You will bring your knowledge of art to the classroom, teaching eager students to appreciate art in its many forms. Our art teachers can share their passion in ways that resonate with urban youth in high need communities.
