Think about people you know who might want to apply
A talented teacher’s aide, tutor, or volunteer; a career changer with a passion for urban education; an upcoming 2021 college graduate; a licensed Diverse Learners teacher; someone from your religious, social, family, or community networks, etc.
Contact people you know who may have access to a likely group of candidates
For example, someone who is in a network with other college students, or someone who works or volunteers in a community program serving young people. Share our information and ask them to pass it along.
Encourage candidates to learn more about AUSL and to complete the process
CTR’s recruiting/admissions staff is eager to help candidates decide if this is the right program for them, and to navigate the application process. Encourage prospective candidates to call the CTR office at 773-534-0397 or sign up online to attend for one of our information sessions, or contact us by email at [email protected]
Help candidates you know succeed with their applications and interviews
Candidates who do their homework about CTR by speaking with people in the CTR community are more likely to succeed in their applications and interviews! Encourage candidates to attend an information session, to study for their IL licensure tests, to invest time in preparing and rehearsing their demo lesson before their interview, and to call CTR with any questions.
Help accepted candidates commit to the program
Talented candidates have multiple options. If you know someone who has applied, share your experiences to help them learn more and make the best choice for the next step in their career.
If you reach out broadly, invite interested folks to get back to you
If you post on Facebook, send a link to a long list of contacts, or otherwise reach out broadly, invite anyone who is considering applying to contact you for more information. When someone does respond, that’s a good trigger for you to submit your online referral form to document that you have referred that person.

Incentive FAQs
Who is eligible to earn a referral payment?
All current residents and CTR Grads and all employees (teachers, ESPs) in any CPS school are eligible to receive incentive payments for referrals to the CTR. Please keep in mind that CTU members cannot receive monetary compensation for referring a family member. You are not entitled to an incentive payment for referring yourself. CTR recruiting and admissions staff are not eligible for incentives.
What if I refer someone who is not accepted, or who chooses not to enroll?
We will pay incentives only for candidates who actually enroll in the program in July 2021. Since some applicants may not be admitted and some admitted candidates may choose not to enroll, you’ll be more likely to earn an incentive if you refer more people. Note: Your encouragement is particularly valuable to help motivate candidates interested enough to start the application process to complete the process. Please encourage them to call CTR with any questions along the way.
When and how will I be paid?
After the new resident class enrolls in July 2022, CTR will process and pay out incentive earnings in August 2022.
How will I find out if my referrals are admitted?
The candidates may contact you to share their news, but CTR will not. To respect candidates’ confidentiality, CTR admissions decisions are communicated directly and only to the candidates, not to others.
Restrictions
Is there a limit to the amount of referrals I can submit?
No! There is no limit to the amount of referrals you can submit for the Chicago Teacher Residency Program. We welcome all candidate referrals.
Are there any restrictions?
Unfortunately, there is a restriction on the type of referral you can submit. CTU members cannot receive monetary compensation for referring a family member. We welcome a family referral, but that candidate will not qualify you for any rewards.
