Brianna T, from AUSL Network School The Collins Academy was surprised by Cubs play-by-play announcer, Len Kaspar and Clark the Cub announced to the 2020 Cubs Scholar cohort. Cubs Scholars is a a year-long mentorship program during a student’s senior year and then provides them with a $20,000 scholarship once the student enrolls in college. The program is designed to promote academic achievement and post-secondary educational advancement. Cubs Scholars is a highly competitive and exclusive opportunity open to high-potential students with a demonstrated financial need. Individual students are referred by non-profit partners and selected out of a pool of accomplished candidates. This year, the Cubs received fifty-six applications for eight openings.
Brianna from The Collins Academy was described as possessing “remarkable academic capacity, heart, and promise.” At Collins, Brianna is ranked top of her class with an outstanding 4.6 GPA. Brianna’s achievements stretch beyond academics and into her extracurricular activities such as the school’s chess club, softball team, and robotics club. She is also an elected member of the National Beta Club, where she led two projects prior to school closures. She also contributes to the North Lawndale neighborhood through Nike Social Works and Upward Bound/Near North Development.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Beyond her academic achievements and service learning, Brianna is described as one of the warmest students and “one of our stars” by Principal Sharpe of The Collins Academy.
