Earlier this week, the President of the United States decided to put an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, which allowed those who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children to openly and confidently participate in society. With this decision, he put an expiration date on the livelihood and stability of 800,000+ undocumented immigrants across our great country – signaling to them that they are not wanted here.
Our schools are built on the value of equity of opportunity for all – regardless of your zip code, skin color, or immigration status. That value has not and will not change.
To our undocumented students and families:
We want you in our schools and school communities, now and always. We see the joy and enthusiasm for learning you bring to each other, to our schools, and to this city every day. You are our children and we are stronger together.
To Congress:
Act Wisely. Act compassionately but quickly to integrate and approve DACA protections into law. As a country, we cannot afford to erase the lives and the economic and social impact of almost one million law-abiding Americans. Help us be stronger together.
